4 simple tricks to boost hydration for a glowy healthy skin

A glowy healthy skin starts with a hydrated skin. Every day I’m doing my very best to boost hydration from the inside as well as from the outside. Is your face skin feeling dry? Won’t even your blush and highlighter even not seal the deal anymore? Do you look in the mirror and see the opposite of a naturally glowy healthy skin? There’s one likely cause: dehydration.  Today I’m sharing my simple and face-glow-changing tricks to supercharge your skin hydration!

As more than half of our human body is comprised of water and our skin is the largest organ, there’s no doubt that water is essential to our survival and a key component of the skin. We all want our skin to look healthy and young, with a beautiful glow and therefore it’s required to be kept hydrated – daily. Because did you know that:
– in a 45 minute workout, your skin loses almost a liter of water?
– in eight hours at the office, or during a 7-hour flight (or longer!), your body loses nearly half a liter water?

To keep the face area hydrated for a glowy healthy skin, there are a couple of must-do simple tricks that I have experienced as life-changing. I’m really focused on my skin hydration, because my mum has taught me so when I was younger. Nowadays I’m still very strict on my facial cleansing routine, so I thought: why not share my facial hydration tips and tricks on the Foodie-ness blog 🙂

1. Up your daily dose of H2O
Read: get a fulltime job on drinking water. The easiest way to hydrate your skin is to keep your body hydrated from the inside. My mum always said to me that H2O is the simplest and most accessible beauty saviour for dehydrated skin and.. as always.. she’s right! Up your daily dose of H2O and try to drink plenty of water (2L per day) and soon you’ll notice a difference in your natural face complexion. Not a fan of plain water? TIP: Wanna check the dryness of your skin? Scratch a small area on your leg or arm with your fingernail. If it leaves a white mark, your skin is in desperate need of hydration.

2. Moisturize daily and supercharge on hydration!
Moisturizing daily is essential for soft, glowy, supple skin. There are some special moments when you just need to supercharge your skin and double up on hydration. For example due to work, travel and working out. But which products to use, because there are so many on the market?

As I’m always busy with my facial treatment, I’m always looking for the next thing and I’ve recently discovered the Moisture Surge™ Hydrating Supercharged Concentrate. It provides a concentrated surge of hydration that is supercharged with antioxidants to fend off free radical damage that contributes to dehydration. All skin types? YES! And it can be used as a stand-alone moisturizer or as a serum underneath your usual day or night cream! And talking about the importance of water, this one is extra special due to its ultra-light, plumping water-gel that leaves your skin looking fresh and natural.
TIP: This is a moisture boost that is retained for 24 hours and that’s equal to 18 glasses of water a day! Whoa – goodbye to all my fine, dry lines for € 32,50 only (available at Ici Paris XL or Clinique.nl)!

3. Load up on Omega 3 & indulge in watery foods
Believe it or not, but dry foods may lead to dry skin. Just like H2O, I try to indulge in foods that contain mostly water and can be just as hydrating from the inside of my body as H2O. Think about fruits and veggies like: watermelon, cucumber, berries, apples and celery. And don’t forget to add some omega 3 fats to your daily diet, because it will keep cells water tight and thus well hydrated.
TIP: try to avoid dry, salty, crunchy foods. This may help further dehydrate your skin!

4. Turn down your baths-and shower temperature
This one might sound a little painful (I feel ya!), because most of us relax a little when they enjoy a long and hot shower. But: it’s no good for you! Hot water will strip the oils from your skin and will lower your skin hydration level.

Remember, skin stays hydrated through a variety of methods. So try to work with the above mentioned tips and tricks for a radiant, supercharged, glowy healthy skin.

Now, let’s grab a glass of water 😛

With love,
Carolina.
