3 reasons why foam rolling is extremely beneficial

You may have noticed the famous (and amazing!) Kayla Itsines promoting foam rolling for a while, but do you know what benefits your body could get from it? Foam rolling is a self-massage to release muscle tightness and knots and can be extremely beneficial for fit girls of all levels. If you’re a real health freak, you definitely want to read this article and start foam rolling A-S-A-P 😉

If I tell you that foam rolling is to massage your muscles I would probably make you too happy, because it can be a bit painful! With foam rolling exercises you are able to massage out the tight knots in your muscles. We all have created muscle knots in some parts of our body that won’t go away by itself and this can lead to several problems.

Foam rolling body benefits:
1. Eliminate that sore and tight feeling in your muscles after a workout
When you really nailed it in the gym, you will wake up the next morning and feel like it’s hard to almost move because you are so sore! By doing foam rolling exercises as a post-workout you will reduce most of that pain, soreness and tightness: sounds great, right?!

2. Foam rolling increases muscle flexibility
Flexibility in you muscles and body is important for every fit girl, well guess what: foam rolling can help with that! By increasing your flexibility you will improve your performance and become a much more healthier fit girl.

3. Foam rolling will protect you from injuries
That tight and sore feeling in your muscles after a hard workout will develop knots and stress. Foam rolling will roll out the tight spots, improve circulation, increase blood flow and prevent those knots from becoming injury trigger points. In worst case, this could lead to neck immobility and shin splints. Integrate a couple of foam rolling exercises in your post-workout schedule to break down knots in your muscles and reduce pain.

How to start foam rolling?
You can use a foam roller on several body parts, but focus on the following muscle groups: back muscles, hamstrings, quads and butt. You will feel it immediately when you find a sore muscle knot (it will feel a bit painful), then keep the foam roller on that body part for 15 seconds to make it go away.
